Friday, 16 January 2009: Sri Lanka must produce 500,000 Java software engineers within ten years to strengthen the knowledge-based economy in the country.

President, Chamber of Chartered Java Professionals Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana said there are 5,000 Java programmers in the country and they are targeting 500,000 Java programmers within ten years.

He said, “Today, Sri Lankan youth depend on traditional jobs and we have a labour-based economy. In Sri Lanka a large number of A/L students are unable to qualify for university entrance.

The open source Java technology is the most powerful advance and widely used technology which is used for high tech innovation such as e-Commerce, m-Commerce, electronics, robotics automation, space and aircraft technology. Sunday, 8 November 2009: Java exhibition at BMICH

Java Sri Lanka 2009 was the first ever software exhibition organized in Sri lanka. Dr Ishantha Siribaddana organized the exhibition. Java Institute Students show cased more than 200 Software Solutions
"Java Sri Lanka", a computer software and education exhibition jointly organized by the Java Sri Lanka Movement and Open International University will be held at the BMICH on November 9 and 10. The entrance to the exhibition is free.

The exhibition is the first ever software exhibition to be held in Sri Lanka and is a remarkable event in the field of IT in Sri Lanka, said Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana, Managing Director of Institute of Java and Technological Studies. The event is aimed at promoting Java software solutions for local and international trade markets, Siribaddana told a media briefing Wednesday.

At the exhibition, high quality e-commerce application software and standlone industrial software products developed by skilled young Sri Lankan professionals will be exhibited.

"Java technology has become the most powerful tool in today's software development industry, creating ample local and international job opportunities. Also Java is used in almost every field in the today's competitive world," he said. Read More View Archive>>
